F.A.Q. About Eligibility and Financial Aid

Is there an age or GPA requirement to participate?
Open to high school graduates and above with at least a 2.5 GPA. Students must remain in good academic standing during the term prior to their overseas experience. Students not in good academic standing may be disqualified from participation.

Are high school students eligible to study in the Language Credit via Distance Education Program?
No. Students must have earned a high school degree or its equivalent to be admitted in this program.
 
Do students have to be U.S. citizens to study in this program?
No. This  program is open to any qualified student. U.S.  permanent residents will have to provide the Form I-551 to prove this status for admission purposes. International students studying in  the U.S. on the F-1 or J-1 visa would have to obtain permission from their Foreign Student Office to study in this program and to be able  to travel abroad and return legally to the U.S.
 
May  students with special needs study in this program?
Yes. Study  abroad is open to all students. However, students  with special physical or psychological support needs must check with the host language institution to determine that these needs can be accommodated.  If the needs cannot be accommodated, then the host institution does not need to accept a student.  For more information about access to study abroad  for students with special needs, contact Mobility  International USA.
 
Will we administer financial aid for DEIL students?
No. Students must work with their home institution to arrange disbursement of financial aid to study with Academics Abroad Group. The Office will provide program cost information to the students' home institution and verify that we are not providing you with financial aid.
 
Are Americorp Awards accepted?
Yes. we can work with Americorp to invoice them for the costs of the program.

Can GI Bill be Used for these programs?
Yes, under certain circumstances financial aid for veterans may be used.  Inquire for details.
 
Is  the $385 application fee refundable?
If your application is not accepted, your application fee is fully refundable.  Once your application has been accepted, the application fee is non-refundable
 
Is course fee refundable?
The course fee (final payment) is due 60 days prior to initiating classes abroad.  If you pay early, the course fee is fully refundable up to 60 days prior to initiating classes abroad.  Within 60 days, there are tiered cancellation fees.  Within 15 days of start of class abroad, there is no refund.
